EMDR
EMDR–Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy– is the most widely studied and validated treatment approach in the whole of psychotherapy and is highly effective in resolving trauma-related experiences.
I am a Certified EMDR Therapist and have been using EMDR since 2001. In that time, I have had the honor of witnessing over a thousand trauma victims not just overcome devastating experiences but discover their ever-present and enduring strength through the use of this powerful tool.
But can EMDR therapy be effective and safe in a virtual setting? Yes! While not everyone may be a good candidate for virtual trauma therapy, this is something I would love t discuss with you. As with any therapy, you and I will discuss your current situation, needs, risk factors, and appropriateness in our first session. EMDR is an 8-phase therapy, which includes assessment and preparation for trauma processing. As a general rule, clients may be appropriate for trauma processing online when they…
- have the ability to regulate their emotions and self-soothe in a healthy way both in and outside of session
- have safe living conditions presently (free from domestic abuse, substance misuse, etc.)
- are experiencing symptoms of emotional distress that interfere with their ability to function mildly to moderately
- have access to a private, safe place to engage in teletherapy, have a reliable internet connection, functioning earbuds or headphones, and a screen that is at least the size of a tablet.
